GEORGETOWN, S.C. — The Highway Patrol says a man who led Georgetown County sheriff's deputies on a chase has died after he was hit by a patrol car.
Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson told multiple media outlets the dead man was 28-year-old Terrance Gagum of Hemingway.
Authorities say sheriff's deputies had chased Gagum on Tuesday night and he ran from the car and was struck by a deputy's car.
Investigators say Gagum died at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
It was not immediately clear why deputies were chasing him.
The Highway Patrol and the State Law Enforcement Division are investigating.
