McALLEN, Texas (AP) — A new report on the police shooting of an armed teenager at a Texas school says a sergeant gave the order to "take him out" when the 15-year-old boy turned toward another student in January.
The report filed by Brownsville police and released by the state attorney general says Jaime Gonzalez was holding a realistic-looking pellet gun when he turned toward a student trapped between him and officers. Officers fired, fatally shooting Gonzalez inside Cummings Middle School.
A custodial death report must be filed with the Texas attorney general's office when someone dies in police custody. It was reported by The Brownsville Herald in Tuesday's edition.
The report reflects earlier police statements that Gonzalez pointed the pellet gun at them but also raises the possibility he fired at officers.
