RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno police are wearing black bands on their badges to mourn the loss of a veteran officer who died from critical injuries he suffered in a motorcycle wreck in Idaho two weeks ago.
Idaho State Police say 30-year-old Scott Heglar was riding with friends on Interstate 84 in Idaho's Canyon County when he was rear-ended in a four-vehicle crash on July 11. He had been on life support since then and died Saturday at a hospital in Boise.
Reno Deputy Police Chief Dave Evans says Heglar was a well-respected officer and friend who served on the force for nearly eight years. He leaves behind a wife and four children.
Plans for services are pending.
Idaho authorities originally said Heglar was not wearing a helmet but later confirmed that he was.
