GREECE, N.Y. (AP) — A police dog in western New York will be named to honor an officer killed by a sniper last year.

The Greece Police Department says the dog will be dubbed "Chip," the nickname of Webster police Lt. Michael Chiapperini.
Greece and Webster are neighboring Rochester suburbs on Lake Ontario.
Chiapperini and fellow West Webster volunteer firefighter Tomasz Kaczowka (TOH'-mahz kah-CHOOV'-skah) were killed and two other firefighters were injured after William Spengler set fire to his home and opened fire on them as they arrived on Dec. 24.
Spengler killed himself during a gunfight with a police officer who had also gone to the scene.
A ceremony to officially name the dog is set for Friday afternoon.
