PALISADES PARK, N.J. – Grief counselors are on hand at a New Jersey police department after an off-duty officer died in a motor vehicle crash in rural Pennsylvania.
According to an accident report, Palisades Park Patrolman John Ferraioli was not wearing his seatbelt when his vehicle crossed a median and struck a tree in Damascus Township, Pa., early Saturday.
Borough officials tell The Record newspaper the 37-year-old had been on a weekend trip with friends.
Co-workers say the 15-year veteran of the department had revived its drunken driving checkpoint program and had started working on new traffic patterns to improve safety at school crossings.
