HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. — Authorities say they shot an armed man who showed up at a north Florida school, angry that officials wouldn't release two children to his family.
Sheriff's deputies say 63-year-old was shot Wednesday at High Springs Community School, about 20 miles north of Gainesville. Nodine was taken to a hospital, but his condition wasn't immediately available.
Child welfare officials had asked the school not to release the two students because agency employees were heading to the school for an investigation.
When Nodine arrived, law enforcement was notified. There was a confrontation, and Nodine was shot.
Child welfare officials wouldn't talk about the department's investigation, citing privacy laws.
Nodine's relationship with the children was not immediately available. Officials say no students were in danger and the school was briefly placed on lockdown.
