NEW YORK – An NYPD helicopter carrying five officers has made an emergency water landing.
Police say the helicopter landed upright in Jamaica Bay on Wednesday afternoon while returning to a nearby police department airfield. One of the officers suffered a minor injury.
The chopper was carrying a three-man flight crew and two scuba divers who were on a routine security patrol. Flotation devices were deployed before it landed in the bay.
The emergency landing happened around 3:45 p.m. It was not immediately clear what caused it.
