ALBANY, Ga. (AP) — Authorities are expecting more than 1,000 mourners to gather for the funeral of an Albany officer killed in a car chase.
Officer Terry Lewis-Flemming's funeral service is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the Albany Civic Center.
The 36-year-old died when her cruiser crashed into a tree last week and burned during a pursuit of two robbery suspects.
Authorities said the chase started when police officers received a report that armed men were robbing the Consolidated Finance Co.
As police cruisers chased the suspects, Lewis-Flemming's car collided with another patrol car, careened into a tree and burst into flames.
WALB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/vbgI0Q ) that organizers are expecting law enforcement officers around the state to attend the service.
