BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA) — A woman is in custody after becoming involved in a hit and run accident, striking a police car and then fleeing the scene in Bethesda, say officials.
Navy Support Activity officials say that a driver struck another vehicle while leaving the facility in Bethesda on Tuesday but when officers tried to stop the driver, she tried to hit one of the officers with her car. An officer then fired his gun, but officials are unsure if the driver was hit or not. As the driver fled, she reportedly struck a patrol car with another officer inside of it. Officials say the officer in the patrol car suffered non-life threatening injuries. The officer was taken to Suburban Hospital.
Montgomery County police pursued the car, say NSAB officials. Montgomery County police officials confirmed a person was taken into custody after the report of a shooting and a personal vehicle collision in Bethesda shortly before noon on Tuesday. They also said that shots were fired at the north entrance to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and that a car crashed on Nebel Street near Nicholson Lane.
Sky 9 captured video of police pulling someone from the car and then take him or her into custody.
Police continue to investigate the incident.
