MANCHESTER, Conn. — A Manchester police lieutenant says a member of a regional SWAT team shot a suspect in a standoff to death last week moments before an order came to hold fire.
Edmanuel Reyes was killed after his family escaped from the home Thursday night where Reyes had fired about 100 shots at officers.
Police say the standoff began when police responded to a report that Reyes was threatening his family with a gun and Manchester officer William Beeler was shot in the left shoulder. Other shots left holes in police cars and neighboring homes.
Manchester police Lt. Christopher Davis tells the Hartford Courant that after the family escaped the home, a supervisor told officers not to shoot, but the order came seconds after a sniper shot Reyes in the head.
