LOS ANGELES — A wild Los Angeles police chase of a reckless motorist has ended with the fatal shooting of the driver, who made menacing gestures at officers.
Lt. Andy Neiman says investigators are still trying to determine what the man was clutching with both hands, simulating a weapon.
News helicopter video shows him repeatedly spinning around in a combat stance just before he was shot on U.S. 101 in Woodland Hills.
KNX radio identified the suspect as 19-year-old Abdul Arian.
His uncle, Hamed Arian, tells KTTV-TV that his nephew was afraid of police and didn't own a gun.
Neiman says the suspect failed to pull over for reckless driving and was pursued onto the freeway, where he jumped out after he attempted a U-turn and was rammed by a squad car.
