INDIANAPOLIS – Four officers were shot Wednesday evening while serving a warrant at a southeast Indianapolis home.
WISH reports that SWAT members of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were serving a high-risk narcotics warrant at a known drug house. Authorities stated that as the officers entered and announced themselves the suspect in the focus of the warrant started firing at the officers. The SWAT officers returned fire killing the suspect.
Two officers were transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital and one was transported to Eskenazi Health. A third officer was treated at the scene and released. Each wounded officer reportedly had non-life-threatening injuries, with their ballistic vests being credited for preventing serious wounds.
An IMPD update reported that each officer is alert and listed in good condition. Two of the wounded were expected to remain at the hospital overnight for observation.
Four people were in the home at the time of the shooting and were not injured. The home was a location familiar to the IMPD and was a suspected site for selling illegal narcotics.
