FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Police in northern Indiana say a 3-year-old child is safe after being held hostage for hours by the suspect in a fatal bus shooting.
Fort Wayne police spokeswoman Raquel Foster told The Journal Gazette about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday that the child was safe. It was not immediately clear whether police rescued the child or the suspect was in custody.
Police said about 1 p.m. that the suspect had holed up in a house near where a woman was pulled off a city bus and fatally shot earlier Wednesday. Police said he was holding a 3-year-old hostage.
The relationship between the suspect, the victim and the child wasn't immediately known.
