WHITESTOWN, Ind. — A police chief says a central Indiana officer who crashed his squad car into a barn is expected to survive.
Zionsville Police Chief Richard Dowden said Thursday that Officer Tom Henthorn is not believed to have life threatening injuries from the crash that happened while he was on duty.
The Boone County Sheriff's Department is investigating the crash, and spokesman Chris Burcham tells the Lebanon Reporter that investigators were not ruling out a medical issue.
Emergency crews were called around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and were working to get Henthorn out of the vehicle as heavy rain and hail began falling a short time later. Henthorn was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition.
Henthorn is married and is a four-year veteran of the police department in suburban Indianapolis.
