BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A killer remains on the loose following a deadly shooting rampage outside a Buffalo restaurant.
The biggest challenge is a common one for Buffalo authorities, getting people who were there and witnessed the shootings to come forward.
What began as a joyful occasion turned deadly, when bullets began flying outside a downtown Buffalo restaurant Saturday morning.
Thirty-year-old Danyell Mackin was celebrating his wedding anniversary with family and friends when he was gunned down, along with three others on Main Street.
Authorities searched through the surveillance video of the scene and shortly after, arrested 25-year-old Keith Johnson, only to drop the charges later.
Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda said, "We obtained some new photo evidence and video evidence and based on the new evidence as I stated, we turned things around rather quickly."
Derenda won't reveal any specifics about who they may be looking for, but he insists investigators are working around the clock to find the gunman.
"We are looking for the right person it isn't just about making an arrest," said Derenda.
Part of the problem is getting witnesses to share information with authorities.
Over 100 people were outside the City Grill when the shooting occurred, according to police.
"When I sent out investigators to location that they were at, half of them disappeared and didn't want to be cooperative," Derenda said.
With a killer on the loose, it's making some downtown visitors concerned for their safety.
Kim Cogswell said, "This man committed this type of crime with all these people around, there' no telling what he'll do next to protect himself."
Jay Rodriguez said, "We can't be out here at night time because there's not too much people coming downtown."
Buffalo Police are still going through that surveillance video from the scene.
They ask anyone with a tip call or text their tipline at 847-2255.
