BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A South Florida man has died after police say he lost control of his car and crashed into a wall on Interstate 95 during a high speed chase.
Boynton Beach Police spotted a silver Volkswagen Beetle that may have been stolen. The officer tried to pull the car over Saturday, but the driver refused and sped off.
He lost control of the car, slammed into a side wall, and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead on scene. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Boynton Beach Police have placed the officer involved on administrative leave with pay pending a review of the incident. That is standard protocol.
