INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Two women and three children aged 5 years and under have been wounded in a shooting at a townhome in Indianapolis, police said Monday.
Authorities said no one has been arrested and that police are looking for three suspects in the Sunday night attack.
Police don't know the reason for the shooting on the city's northwest side about 9:25 p.m., but believe the victims knew their attackers, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Officer Christopher Wilburn said.
He identified the adult victims as 23-year-old Raychel Fitzpatrick and 24-year-old Shelly Jones. Wilburn said Fitzpatrick was shot in the stomach and leg and that Jones was shot multiple times in the pelvic area. When police arrived, 24-year-old Tyler Corbin was holding Fitzpatrick's stomach, he said.
A 2-year-old boy was shot in the hand and lower body. Another boy had shrapnel wounds to the chest and neck and another had gunshot wounds to the right thigh and right arm, Wilburn said. Those two victims were 4 years and 5 years, but Wilburn said he didn't know which child was which age.
Police initially said all five victims were in serious condition. Telephone messages left at the hospitals were not returned early Monday morning.
Wilburn said police don't know the relationships between the victims, and investigators haven't explained the connection between Corbin and the victims.
A police statement early Monday said authorities were seeking three suspects who fled the complex in a vehicle after the attack. Detectives were canvassing the townhome complex for witnesses and information.
