SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A fire truck on an emergency run was hit by a police car near South Bend, knocking it into another car and flipping it onto its side.
Authorities say a firefighter, a police officer and a person in the other car were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after the Wednesday evening crash.
Clay Township Fire Chief John Vance tells WNDU-TV and WSBT-TV that firefighters were on their way to a garage fire when the truck was hit by a Roseland squad car heading to a traffic accident.
The circumstances of the crash remained under investigation, but Vance says the fire truck has transponder that would have given it a green light at the intersection in the suburban area just north of South Bend.
