LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Lafayette firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that damaged the Louisiana State Police Troop I building.
Officials say Tuesday night's fire caused heavy damage in the troop's kitchen and moderate smoke and soot damage throughout the building and forced trooper to temporarily work out of a mobile command post in the parking lot.
Alton Trahan, spokesman for the fire department, said the accidental fire originated in the kitchen on top of a cabinet.
He says a possible electrical short within a receptacle is being investigated as a likely cause of the fire.
