A 36-year-old convicted felon has been indicted on federal weapons charges after police say a car he was in crashed into a police cruiser in Cranston.
Prosecutors say Kareem Williams of Providence was a passenger in the car that attempted to flee from officers who came upon a drug deal on June 20.
Police say Williams had a .38-caliber handgun and a .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol in the car. They say he told them that he and several other men had planned to buy marijuana from a drug dealer, and then rob the man.
A federal grand jury on Wednesday indicted Williams on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
