ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Police say an Englewood officer struck by a suspected drunken driver during a traffic stop has died.
Englewood Police Chief John Collins made the announcement Tuesday. Jeremy Bitner was a seven-year veteran of the department.
Bitner pulled over a driver for a traffic violation shortly after midnight Monday and both were standing outside the patrol car when they were struck by an SUV.
Police say the SUV drove off. Officers found him several miles away.
The State Patrol identified the suspect as 20-year-old Conner Donohue. He's being held on $100,000 bond on suspicion of vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence.
The injured motorist was identified as 20-year-old Kevin Montoya of Littleton. His family told KUSA TV he is conscious and improving.
