KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A man has been charged in a wreck that killed a crime scene technician for the Kansas City Police Department.
The Jackson County prosecutor's office said 28-year-old Larneal Davis of Independence faces one count of involuntary manslaughter. Police said 29-year-old Ying-An (Michael) Chou was leaving work early Saturday when a speeding vehicle collided with his.
Court records say that shortly before the crash, a police sergeant saw Davis' vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Soon after beginning to pursue the vehicle, the sergeant came upon an accident. The sergeant saw the driver attempting to flee.
Court records say the driver was quickly apprehended and had a strong odor of alcohol. Davis told police he had been celebrating his birthday.
It isn't immediately clear if Davis has an attorney.
