Lancaster, Pa.–A pink-and-purple bicycle helped lead police to a theft suspect.
According to city police, the bicycle and its rider were first seen in the 400 block of East Clay Street shortly after 9:30 Friday morning.
A man was seen inside a car there by someone who knew the car's owner, police said. After the witness yelled at the man, the suspect fled the area on a pink-and-purple bicycle.
A short time later, a theft from a vehicle was reported in the 800 block of North Plum Street. A different witness saw a man fleeing from that incident.
The man pedaled away on a pink-and-purple bicycle, the second witness told police.
A short time after that, Eric Geesey, a James Street Improvement District Ambassador, saw a man matching the description of the thief pedaling a – you guessed it – pink-and-purple bicycle.
Geesey followed the man to a garage in the 1000 block of North Duke Street.
That's where police arrested Jose L. Gonzalez, 37, of the 1000 block of North Duke Street. He was charged with two counts of theft from a vehicle and committed to Lancaster County Prison.
Nothing was taken in the first incident. In the second incident, a car stereo and some cash, including a $2 bill, were taken, police said.
After Gonzalez was arrested, police said, they found a $2 bill in his possession. The stereo was not recovered.
Police are investigating to see if Gonzalez may have been involved in other thefts.
