NEW YORK — Two off-duty Bronx cops charged in the pistol-whipping of a motorist were free on bail yesterday but face likely dismissal from the force, police sources said.
Officers Michelle Anglin and Koleen Robinson were charged with assault, menacing and weapons possession for allegedly pummeling Marlon Smith so badly Friday that he needed 25 stitches.
One of the officers pointed a gun in Smith's face, Smith told investigators.
"If these allegations prove true, it's a horrendous case, a horrendous situation," Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.
Anglin, 37, a three-year veteran, and Robinson, 24, a two-year veteran, had been assigned to Transit District 12 but were suspended for 30 days without pay after their arrests, and their guns and shields taken away.
Authorities said Robinson, behind the wheel of her Chevy Suburban, was riding with Anglin when she pulled alongside Smith's parked car in Williamsbridge because his driver's side door was open.
"Close the door, you –," one of the cops told Smith, 35, according to the criminal complaint.
Smith responded with an obscenity, and the officers attacked him, according to the complaint. Anglin allegedly squirted pepper spray in his face and Robinson punched him. In the ensuing melee, Robinson allegedly beat Smith with her collapsible baton and Anglin pistol-whipped him in the face.
The officers drove off, but a witness took down the license plate number and Internal Affairs investigators arrested the suspects within hours.
Anglin was released on $25,000 bail and Robinson on $10,000 bail. Their lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.
