FONTANA, CA—The OSP1, a specially designed prison mattress, is manufactured of a clear material, with the ends of the mattress heat sealed and vented, as opposed to stitched. It prevents prisoners from hiding weapons, drugs, or other contraband within the mattress. Its clear design eliminates current motives for vandalism and increases safety for all involved. Made of fire-resistant transparent materials and similar in size and general function to a standard prison mattress, the OSP1 is a smarter replacement to mattresses currently in use.
The patent pending OSP1 was invented by a seventeen year veteran deputy, who said, “ The OSP1 makes for a safer prison/jail environment for officers, faculty, and inmates by preventing inmates from hiding weapons, drugs, cell phones, and other contraband within their mattresses. By design the OSP1 is made without threading or strings, thus this material cannot be used by inmates to create other contraband. Providing prison officials and guards greater control of the prison environment, the OSP1 allows a quick and easy search of a mattress, without having to x-ray it, open the seams, and otherwise dig through the mattress. The OSP1 eliminates the need for the expensive x-ray machine now used for mattress searches. Its transparent design should eliminate any motive to vandalize the mattress for hiding contraband, thus life span of these mattresses should far exceed those currently used. Decreasing the ability for inmates to hide weapons, drugs, and contraband will result in fewer assaults with weapons, less frequent drug incidents, and fewer injuries to staff during searches, all equating to an unforeseen fiscal savings to local municipalities and governments.”
